CHONBURI, Thailand – The Philippines had a lean haul, medal-wise, but enjoyed a meaningful day at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Sunday.

The PH contingent won two gold medals on Sunday courtesy of Agatha Wong in wushu and the mixed judo team led by Chino Sy.

The Philippines stayed in sixth spot in the medal tally with 17 gold, 30 silver, and 68 bronze medals as of posting time, three behind Malaysia, which kept fifth place behind a 20-23-69 slate.

Wong claimed her sixth SEA Games gold medal of her career in the taijijian + taijiquan event on Sunday morning.

Sy bagged his second gold of the Games as he joined Esleken Kedo, Gabriel Benedict Quitain, Randy Ferrera Jr., John Viron Ferrer, Rhyan Zarchie Garay, Joemari-Heart Rafael, Leah Jhane Lopez, Khrizzie Pabulayan, Margaret Fajardo, and Maxine Denise Mababangloob in beating host Thailand in the mixed event.

Despite the lean medal output, there were memorable moments in other fronts.

The Filipinas stunned host Thailand to reach the women’s football gold medal match. They won on penalties, 4-2, after a 1-1 tie at the Chonburi Daikin Stadium.

Albert Delos Santos was among the silver medalists for the day, but he did it in record fashion when he set the new world juniors record of 138 in the snatch and 324 total for the Philippines’ first medal in weightlifting.

    The practical shooting team is also closing in on a gold medal following a big performance entering the final day of competition set on Monday.

    Gilas Pilipinas Men opened the men’s basketball tournament with an 83-58 win over Malaysia at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.

    Kayla Sanchez copped two more medals, taking the silver medals in the women’s 50m freestyle and the 4x200m freestyle relay.
