CHONBURI, Thailand – The Philippines advanced to the Southeast Asian Games women’s football final for the first time ever, beating host Thailand in penalties, 4-2, after a 1-1 tie on Sunday at the Chonburi Daikin Stadium.
Jael Marie Guy scored on a penalty in the 87th minute following a Thailand handball inside the box to keep the Philippines’ hopes alive.

Guy, Alessandrea Carpio, Sara Eggesvik, and Hali Long all scored in the shootout, which the Filipinas won after Sontisawat Pluemjai hit the bottom left post and Waenngoen Orapin's shot sailed too high in the hosts' final two shots.
The Philippines now faces four-time reigning champion Vietnam on Wednesday at the Chonburi Daikin Stadium for the gold medal.

The Filipinas of head coach Mark Torcaso defeated Vietnam, 1-0, in the group stage.
