MAD props to Christiana Dimaunahan.
The National University baller recently guested on the Instagram account of jelly-based protein drink aminoVITAL with nothing but a chair and some weights to show off a lockdown workout.
It’s a challenging one, beginning with a modified pushup, moving on to single leg exercises that are so important for basketball players, and then finally giving you a break with another pushup variation that’s on the easier side.
But it’s the high rep range and number of sets that will really get you sweating.
Decline pushup to shoulder taps, 12 to 15 reps. Do 3 to 4 sets.
Single leg squat with dumbbell raise holds, 12 to 15 reps. Do 3 to 4 sets.
Weighted pistol squat, 12 to 15 reps. Do 3 to 4 sets.
Incline pushup, 12 to 15 reps. Do 3 to 4 sets.
Incline pushup to 4 mountain climbers, 12 to 15 reps. Do 3 to 4 sets.
Intense, right? But that’s exactly the point.
Dimaunahan said that she needs to intensify her workout just to keep in shape, since gyms and basketball courts are still closed. She also makes creative use of household items in her workout — in the case of this workout, a chair.
It isn’t just about exercise, either. Dimaunahan finds her drive from something greater than herself.
“I think about the people who believe in me and how much I want to prove myself worthy of their faith,” said the 20-year-old.
But in our fitness journey, any reason to work out is reason enough. “It doesn’t matter where you get your motivation from, after all. It matters that you always find one — any reason at all to get up and start. Nothing good ever happens to people who make excuses,” she said.
