THREE homegrown Premier Volleyball League (PVL) stars in Tots Carlos, Mylene Paat and MJ Phillips will shoot their shot overseas in the 2024 Korean V-League (KOVO) Women's Asian Quota Draft.

The three Filipina aces were listed in the 36-player draft pool featuring a vast array of Asian hotshots, including Thai spiker Kuttika Kaewpin who played for seven-time PVL champion Creamline from 2017 to 2019 with one title to her name.

Among the trio of aspirants, Phillips was drafted fifth overall last year by Korean club Gwangju AI Peppers. Record-wise, the 2023-24 season was a dismal one for Phillips' side as they finished dead-last in the seven-team field with a 5-31 (win-loss) record.

The Petro Gazz ace parted ways with the club at the end of the recently concluded KVL season and is expected to rejoin the Angels at a later stage of the ongoing 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference, in which her mother team continues to vie for a semifinals spot.

Korea-bound?

Two former PVL MVPs and champions in Carlos and Paat look to break through in the international volleyball scene.

Carlos, a four-time champion and three-time MVP with Creamline, has yet to play in an overseas league following what has already been a decorated domestic career. The pursuit of history continued for Carlos after setting a new PVL single-game scoring record for a local player with 38 points in a five-set thriller over Cignal.

The Chery Tiggo ace, meanwhile, carries international pedigree after a fruitful one-year stint with Thailand's winningest club Nakhon Ratchasima VC. Paat topped her Thailand League bronze-medal stint upon also emerging as the tournament's best scorer.
