TOTS Carlos etched her name in Philippine volleyball folklore with the highest single-game scoring output by a local player in Premier Volleyball League (PVL) history.
The league’s new scoring yardstick? 38 huge points for Creamline in a classic five-set comeback from two sets down against Cignal.
Creamline posts record numbers
As a team, the seven-time PVL champions stuffed the stat sheets with staggering numbers on all fronts, including Creamline’s 100 excellent digs — 30 from Jema Galanza — and lead playmaker Kyle Negrito’s 35 excellent sets.
But for Carlos, such a personal milestone only carries weight if it results in a win. And it doesn’t matter if it is her or fellow ace spiker Galanza or skipper Alyssa Valdez who’ll put up record numbers.
What matters most for Creamline
It’s the W that matters the most for Carlos and Creamline.
“Siyempre grateful ako na merong mga ganitong opportunity," the three-time league MVP said. "Pero ‘yun nga, paulit-ulit kami na kahit sino pang maka 38 points, kahit sino pang maka-55 points, walang prolema basta nanalo ‘yung team.
"So wala kami talagang problema kasi number one priority talaga namin, ‘yung team. Kung si Jema ‘yung maka 55, walang problema, masaya lang kami.
Carlos added: “Honestly, sinusunod lang talaga namin si Coach (Sherwin Meneses) and naglalaro lang talaga kami, nag-eenjoy. Minsan may mga lapses pero nire-remind niya kami na bumalik lang talaga sa sistema na tinitraining namin every day.
“‘Yung mga ganitong opportunity masaya lang din talaga ako pero at the end of the day, mas nakakatuwa kasi panalo ‘yung team.”
