    Kai Sotto heads to Orlando to join Magic

    Kai Sotto is set to prove his fitness to play in the NBA level as he leaves for Orlando to undergo medicals ahead of his stint with the Magic’s Summer League team.

    The 7-foot-3 homegrown Filipino NBA aspirant is expected to pass his tests before he joins his first practice with the Magic on July 2, Tony Ronzone of Wasserman Sports told SPIN.ph.

    Sotto has been listed on the Magic’s 22-man Summer League roster, led by Anthony Black and Jett Howard, the sixth and 11th overall picks in the recent NBA Draft.

    The Magic's Summer League team will leave on July 5 for Las Vegas where they will play at least four games beginning with a date with the Detroit Pistons on July 8. (July 9 Manila time).

    Gilas Pilipinas' Euro camp moves to Lithuania

    Gilas Pilipinas continues its European training camp as it moves to Lithuania for another set of tune-up games in preparation for the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup.

    After losses in two friendlies in Estonia against the home team and Finland, respectively the Filipino dribblers set their sights on Lithuania, a country in the Baltic region of Europe.

    National coach Chot Reyes shared Gilas is set to play in at least four more games, while also undergoing twice-a-day practices in between.

    Reyes didn’t reveal the teams it will be facing, but he said in an earlier interview that they were looking to play the Lithuania Under-21 team as well as top clubs.

      PVL to hold third conference despite PNVF sanction

      The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is insisting on holding its third conference despite the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) likely imposing a ban on the league to tap imports.

      Organizing Sports Vision president Ricky Palou said stakeholders are adamant to hold a season-ending conference “with or without imports” amid reports that the PNVF is punishing the league for not aligning its tournaments to the FIVB calendar.

      In a report by Daily Tribune, the PNVF is sanctioning the pro league for violating the Article 6.1.1.b of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball Sports Regulations 2022 that states that “the national team period from 16 May to 15 October shall be prioritized in the calendar.”

      The PVL, however, is currently holding its mid-season Invitational Conference that started on June 27 and is scheduled to last until July 30.
