Malacanang also announced the appointment of former fencer Walter Francis Torres and Cebu-based Edward Lim Hayco as PSC commissioners, joining Bong Coo.

Torres, 55, is a veteran of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona while Hayco headed the Cebu City Sports Commission for 12 years until his resignation in February.

Eala was replaced just four months after his appointment by Malacanang to head the government's sports agency, although rumors that he will be replaced broke out just weeks into his term.

Sources said Eala's appointment was made by former executive secretary Vic Rodriguez, who had a falling out with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. soon after the latter's victory in the May elections.

Bachmann is currently in the US and has yet to issue a statement on his appointment. He is set to return on Dec. 30.

Like Eala who served as PBA commissioner, executive director of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), and sports head of SMC, Bachmann also has a deep background in sports administration.

Bachmann is currently the commissioner of the UAAP basketball tournament and chairman of the PBA 3x3, positions which he will most likely give up with his appointment at PSC.

Bachmann also served as team governor of Alaska, the same team he played for during his PBA days, before the franchise was sold to Converge.

He also holds a key position in the organizing committee of the 2023 Fiba World Cup which the country will co-host with Japan and Indonesia in late August.
