Sanford's fitness journey: Balancing esports and a healthy lifestyle

THE AI sando-filter trend took the internet by storm, allowing men to visualize their ultimate body transformation with just a few clicks. But there’s no shortcut to a dream physique for Team Liquid Philippines’ Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya as he stays committed to a healthy lifestyle despite his packed schedule.

“May times na sobrang busy namin and may times rin na sobrang luwag na yung schedule namin. Sometimes, four times a week kasi sobrang hirap po rin kasi pagsabayin,” Sanford said.

Professional players pour countless hours into practices and grind to make sure to get the best results when the game day arrives, and for Sanford, hitting the gym is the ideal way to unwind.

“Tingin ko po kailangan rin namin ng exercise kasi sobrang babad kami sa radiation. So, kailangan namin ng fitness. Malabas yung mga pawis,” Sanford said.

Sanford shared his simple 4-day workout schedule in an exclusive interview with SPIN.ph, beginning with push day, then pull, followed by a leg day, and rest day for muscle recovery and growth.

“Yung workout po namin lagi is yung PPL (push/pull/legs). Una is push, yun yung mga exercise na may puro push. Then yung pull, yung mga hinahatak, pang back, or pang bicep. Tapos yung L is yung legs,” he explained.

“Sa pull is seated row tapos seated flat pulldown and rear delts. Legs [are] quads tapos next is hamstring, calves. Ako kasi medyo maliit yung legs ko, so nagdadalawang quads ako,” he added.

Push Workouts

  • Bench press
  • Dumbbell press
  • Flat chest press
  • Shoulder press
  • Side lateral raises
  • Tricep push down
  • Reverse grip

Pull Workouts

  • Seated Row
  • Seated pulldown
  • Rear delts
  • Lower back exercises (deadlift, etc.)

Leg Workouts

  • 2 Quad exercises (e.g. squats)
  • Leg extension
  • Calf workouts

Sanford works out with other MPL players

His dietary plan is just as straightforward, focusing more on protein-rich foods like chicken for muscle growth, along with supplements and proper hydration for support.

Meanwhile, Sanford’s journey to fitness led him to cross paths with familiar opponents from the Land of Dawn at the gym.

“Lagi ko po dun kasabay si Flap, si Owgwen, tsaka si Marco. Tapos siguro mga two hours before or a day before nag-usap kami kung tuloy ba, kasi baka magka-conflict kami sa schedule. Kasi yung iba-iba, yung mga teams is iba-iba yung schedule nila,” Sanford revealed.
