RICKY Hatton has hit out at Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s actions, stressing that being on top of the sport requires not only scoring wins but earning respect.
Mayweather wound up on top in the battle of the two best pound for pound fighters with a unanimous decision win over Pacquiao recently. But Hatton, who has fought both fighters, criticized how Mayweather treats his rivals.
“Floyd has his way and I have mine, but there's a line between selling tickets and disrespecting the sport. What's the point of being the world's best fighter if everyone thinks you're a d***head?” Hatton said in an interview with The Sun.
Hatton recalled how before their fight in 2007 Mayweather acted brash and often used profanity when addressing him.
“Later in 2007 when our fight was scheduled, Floyd was going: ‘I'm going to beat you like a b****.’ It was nonsense.”
The British fight star also revealed that during a press tour to promote the fight, Mayweather felt he had the privilege to
“Overtake that mother*****. I'm the champ. I've got to get to New York first. I'll pay whatever you want,” Hatton quoted Mayweather as saying to the pilot of his private plane.
Mayweather had worn a Manchester United to a pre-fight event with Hatton, who is a Manchester City supporter, and this time the unbeaten fighter has been seen wearing a shirt and later a cap that had Philippine theme.
