MANNY Pacquiao underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) in Los Angeles.
According to a report by ESPN.com, renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the 90-minute procedure to repair Pacquiao’s torn rotator cuff. ESPN.com quoted ElAttrache as saying he “could not be more pleased with the results.”
Pacquiao was immediately released from Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic clinic in Los Angeles but the doctor estimates the eight-division world champion won't be able to fight for around nine months to a year.
The Filipino prizefighter suffered the shoulder injury during training for the fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and said he re-injured it during the fourth round of the bout.
Pacquiao is facing penalty from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for not disclosing the injury before the fight.
