Mayweather broke anti-doping rules with IV infusions before Pacquiao fight: report

FLOYD Mayweather received multivitamins in a method that did not conform to World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) guidelines before his megafight with Manny Pacquiao, but was given a retroactive excemption.

Collection agents of the US Anti-Doping Agency found in an unannounced test that Mayweather received intravenous medication, SB Nation reported.

Usada was told by Mayweather’s team the IV fluids administered were a mix of multivitamins and saline, which were not banned.

How it was administered, however, is not allowed as prescribed in the 2015 Wada Prohibited Substances and Methods List.

According to usada.org, “Wada has justified the inclusion of IV infusions on the Prohibited List given the intent of some athletes to manipulate their plasma volume levels in order to mask the use of a prohibited substance.”

Usada granted Mayweather a retroactive therapeutic use exemption to receive IV injections nearly three weeks after the fight, according to Sports Illustrated.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, was not allowed by the Nevada Athletic Commission to receive pain injections for his injured right shoulder.
