The veteran point guard won the PBA Finals MVP award at age 38 after his vintage performances in the Governors' Cup championship series that saw TNT put away Barangay Ginebra in six games.

The 38-year-old Castro averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in the best-of-seven title series which ended on Friday night with a 95-85 win by the Tropang Giga in Game 6 before a crowd of 14,668 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

JUSTIN Brownlee delivered on offense and defense in the crucial moment of Game Three to rescue Barangay Ginebra and beat TNT, 85-73, to capture its first win in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup finals on All Saints Day at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Brownlee finally knocked down his first three of the finals series in the 6:39-mark of the fourth, the start of the Gin Kings’ pivotal finishing kick where the import also produced crucial stops to slice their deficit to 2-1 in their best-of-seven title showdown.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, the same import who steered the franchise to the championship of this same conference last year, came through 36 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and six steals in another impressive all-around showing.

Thanks to a wicked defense that left ROS befuddled all series long, the Tropang Giga wrapped up the best-of-seven series, 4-1, and brought coach Chot Reyes back to the finals for the first time since returning to the TNT bench last season.

CHRIS Banchero made history by making the PBA’s first four-point shot in an official game, which wasn’t exactly a surprise for Meralco.

“Everybody was saying that,” said Banchero. “It’s always good to be in the record books. I’m happy I got to make it.”

Banchero made the four-point shot with 10:26 remaining in the second quarter, giving Meralco the lead, 20-17. The 35-year-old Banchero hoisted the shot from the right wing after receiving a pass from Allen Durham.

His four-point shot helped Meralco grabbed a 99-94 win over Magnolia in the opener of the PBA 49th season Governors’ Cup.
