JAYSON Castro proved he still has some gas left in the tank.
The veteran point guard won the PBA Finals MVP award at age 38 after his vintage performances in the Governors' Cup championship series that saw TNT put away Barangay Ginebra in six games.
The 38-year-old Castro averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in the best-of-seven title series which ended on Friday night with a 95-85 win by the Tropang Giga in Game 6 before a crowd of 14,668 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

TNT outduels Ginebra in Game 6 dogfight to complete title repeat
RONDAE Hollis-Jefferson carried TNT on his broad shoulders the whole PBA Governors’ Cup. The Tropang Giga turned to him once again in the most important game of all.
He delivered as usual.

TNT shocked Barangay Ginebra with a masterful performance on defense and offense on its way to a 99-72 victory on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, stepping closer to taking home the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup title.
The Tropang Giga regained both their defensive intensity and scoring touch, outscoring the Gin Kings, 30-13, in the second quarter to turn Game Five into a mismatch and make a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven finals moot and academic by halftime.

JUSTIN Brownlee finally flashed his brilliant form on offense, scoring 34 points as Barangay Ginebra evened the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup Finals with a 106-92 win over TNT on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee erupted for the most points he has scored in this best-of-seven finals in front of 16,783 fans at the Big Dome on a night when he lost the Best Import award again from TNT rival Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
More importantly, the Gin Kings are back in the title hunt, reducing the series into a best-of-three after being down 0-2 to start their finals showdown.

Ginebra comes back to life on 'Undas' with Game 3 win over TNT
JUSTIN Brownlee delivered on offense and defense in the crucial moment of Game Three to rescue Barangay Ginebra and beat TNT, 85-73, to capture its first win in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup finals on All Saints Day at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee finally knocked down his first three of the finals series in the 6:39-mark of the fourth, the start of the Gin Kings’ pivotal finishing kick where the import also produced crucial stops to slice their deficit to 2-1 in their best-of-seven title showdown.
Brownlee also stripped the ball from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and blocked a three-point attempt by Calvin Oftana during that 17-6 run that turned a 68-67 lead into an 12-point victory, essentially keeping Barangay Ginebra in contention for the championship instead of trailing 0-3 in the series.

RONDAE Hollis-Jefferson produced 37 points to lift TNT to a 96-84 win over Barangay Ginebra and a 2-0 lead in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup Finals on Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Hollis-Jefferson unleashed his full offensive arsenal on the Kings, making a PBA career-high six threes in a no-relief appearance and nearly doubling his Game One output of 19 that was his lowest in this conference’s playoffs.

TNT relies on defense to put away Rain or Shine in five games
ANTIPOLO City – TNT is back in familiar territory after finishing off Rain or Shine, 113-95, on Friday night in Game Five of their PBA Governors Cup semifinal playoff.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, the same import who steered the franchise to the championship of this same conference last year, came through 36 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and six steals in another impressive all-around showing.
Thanks to a wicked defense that left ROS befuddled all series long, the Tropang Giga wrapped up the best-of-seven series, 4-1, and brought coach Chot Reyes back to the finals for the first time since returning to the TNT bench last season.
TNT now awaits the winner of the Barangay Ginebra-San Miguel semis series, which the Kings currently lead, 3-2, after a 121-92 romp earlier in the day.

ANTIPOLO City – Barangay Ginebra found an instant spark in the backcourt duo of Scottie Thompson and rookie RJ Abarrientos in a 121-92 rout of San Miguel that moved the Kings to the threshold of advancing to the PBA Governors Cup Finals.

The reigning Best Import powered his way for a one-handed dunk with 37 seconds remaining to break a 79-79 contest - just enough cushion to enable the Tropang Giga to win in a low-scoring, highly defensive battle.
Hollis-Jefferson tallied 23 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, and five block shots in an all-around effort that gave TNT a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Fuller saves day as Rain or Shine holds off TNT in Game 3
DASMARINAS, Cavite – Aaron Fuller completed a clutch three-point play and Rain or Shine survived a five-minute TNT storm, 110-109, to finally score a breakthrough in their PBA Governors Cup semifinals series on Sunday night.
The Elasto Painters import converted a layup and a free throw to boot off a Roger Pogoy foul in the final 3.8 seconds to give the lead back to the team, which lost a 15-point lead in Game 3 at the Dasmarinas City Arena.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson then missed on the Tropang Giga’s final play as Rain or Shine avoided falling into a 0-3 black hole in the best-of-seven semifinal series.

ANTIPOLO – San Miguel played with the poise and heart of a champion to subdue a stubborn Converge side, 109-105, and catch the last bus to the semifinals of the PBA Season 49 Governors Cup on Sunday.
June Mar Fajardo was a man-mountain for the Beermen with 40 points and 24 rebounds to guide the team past the FiberXers in a sudden-death Game Five that got heated, especially in a fiercely contested final quarter at the Ynares Center.
The Beermen will now meet Barangay Ginebra Kings in the best-of-seven semifinals starting on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.

CONVERGE dragged highly-favored San Miguel Beer into a winner-take-all showdown behind a morale-boosting 114-100 win in their PBA Governors Cup quarterfinals series on Friday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Playing with nothing to lose, the FiberXers put the pressure on June Mar Fajardo and Co. by making one clutch play after another - none bigger than Bryan Santos' back-to-back three-pointers in the home stretch to make it a 101-95 contest.
That was enough to take Game 4 and tie at 2-2 a best-of-five series that the powerhouse Beermen were expected to close without much trouble.

Jabari Bird and Paul Lee delivered in the convincing win that the Hotshots needed in Game Four to avoid elimination and live to fight another day.
Magnolia trailed early, 11-2, but found ways to get back in the game that the Hotshots eventually won even with the absence of Zavier Lucero, one of the central figures in their Game Three loss.

ALEC Stockton drained a buzzer-beating jumper as Converge overcame a 27-point deficit to defeat San Miguel, 114-112, on Monday in Game Three and stay alive in their PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinal series.
The FiberXers faced a 83-56 third-quarter deficit and were still down, 83-66, entering the fourth before fighting back to finally capture a win and extend the series to a Game Four on Friday, also at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Beermen still lead the best-of-five series, 2-1.

The Elasto Painters survived with Gian Mamuyac and Jhonard Clarito making the free throws in the end game to give them a 2-1 series lead.

JUSTIN Brownlee buried a three-pointer over Allen Durham with 10.1 seconds left as Barangay Ginebra beat Meralco, 104-103, on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum to take a 2-0 lead in the PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals.
Brownlee's stepback three capped off a grind-out match-up between the two imports with the Gin Kings ending up as victors to move one win away from advancing to the semifinals.
Even Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone was left in awe about Brownlee's heroics.
"It was Justin's night. It was amazing," Cone said.

SAN Miguel closed in on a semifinal berth on Saturday after defeating Converge, 107-100, in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

EJ Anosike had 41 points, including a lay-up with 1:37 left in the fourth, part of San Miguel’s 8-2 run to bring its lead to 105-98 after seeing its lead get cut down to one.

SANTA ROSA, Laguna – Magnolia Chicken Timplados evened the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinal series in a huge way, beating Rain or Shine, 121-69, on Friday at the City of Santa Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.
Jabari Bird gave the Hotshots instant impact in his first game in leading them to a 52-point blowout to tie the best-of-five series at 1-1.
The Elasto Painters lost in record fashion, with their five-point production in the second quarter tying the league worst done in four previous times in the finals, but first in a playoff series.
Bird, in his first game after replacing Rayvonte Rice, had 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Calvin Abueva had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Hotshots, who scored 32 in the second quarter to pull away.

DEQUAN Jones scored 44 points to lift NLEX to a place in the quarterfinals, beating Barangay Ginebra, 103-99, in overtime on Sunday in the PBA Governors' Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Jones lifted the Road Warriors to victory to secure the No. 4 seed in the quarterfinals in Group B.
Ginebra missed the services of Justin Brownlee in the final three minutes of overtime, and NLEX took advantage. Brownlee earlier led the Kings to a fightback from seven points down in the regulation to force overtime.

TNT closed the group stage of the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup with a 99-79 rout over NorthPort on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Tropang Giga finished the eliminations with an 8-2 win-loss record to officially clinch the top seed in Group A, and will face the No. 4-ranked squad in Group B, which will either be NLEX or Blackwater.

MERALCO closed its group stage with a 124-82 rout over Terrafirma on Saturday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Bolts finished the eliminations with a 7-3 win-loss record to cement the No. 2 seed of Group B in the quarterfinals after the 42-point blowout win.

King comes to Blackwater’s aid in taking crucial win over SMB
BLACKWATER’s conference isn’t over just yet.
George King scored 49 points and the Bossing pounced on the absence of Jordan Adams to defeat San Miguel, 111-94, on Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium to stay alive in the playoff hunt of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Bossing joined NLEX in a tie for fourth place with a 4-5 win-loss slate with a huge victory over the Beermen, their first since October 6, 2022, and only their second in the last 14 meetings, according to PBA statistics chief Fidel Mangonon.
More importantly, Blackwater remains in the hunt for the quarterfinal slot ahead of its meeting against Rain or Shine on Monday.

JUSTIN Brownlee erupted for a new career-high 51 points as Barangay Ginebra bounced back from a season-opening loss by edging San Miguel, 108-102, on Tuesday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee carried the fight for the Gin Kings in the second half like he has done for most of his successful PBA career as the league's most popular team won for the first time this season while atoning for a loss to Rain or Shine in Candon, Ilocos Sur.
Brownlee also put the finishing touches to the win, scoring on a running shot with 28.1 seconds remaining as Ginebra evened its record to 1-1 win-loss in Group B while dealing San Miguel its first defeat in three games.

Hopson hits PBA's first 4-point game winner as Converge stuns TNT
SCOTTY Hopson made the PBA’s first game-winning four-point shot with 4.8 seconds left as Converge stunned TNT, 96-95, on Tuesday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

SAN Miguel shook off a lethargic start and took care of business against an import-less Blackwater side, 128-108, in Sunday’s main game of the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen struggled against the Bossing’s outside shooting in the first half and trailed, 63-56, at the break. But once they got into the groove, the Bossing hardly offered any resistance.
Import Jordan Adams erupted for 50 points and sparked a huge third quarter run by the Beermen, where they outscored the opposition, 38-20, to finally seize control of the game, 94-83.

FELIX Lemetti made key plays during Rain or Shine’s closing run to beat Barangay Ginebra, 73-64, on Saturday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
Lemetti buried a crucial three with 1:07 left in the contest, the last field goal of the Elasto Painters’ 20-3 turnaround to end the game, enabling them to go 2-0 and take the early lead in Group B team standings.
Aaron Fuller also provided a huge lift for Rain or Shine, contributing team highs of 16 points and 22 rebounds as the Elasto Painters won after trailing by eight, 61-53, with eight minutes to play in the game.

TNT took the early lead in Group A of the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup after beating Meralco, 93-73, on Thursday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had another strong showing as the Tropang Giga also took advantage of the absence of Chris Newsome due to an ankle and knee injury for a majority of the game to go to 2-0.
Hollis-Jefferson had 25 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists for TNT. He also had 14 points as the Tropang Giga outscored the Bolts, 31-16, in the third quarter.

Fiery NLEX debut sends Blackwater reeling to second straight loss
NLEX began the Jong Uichico era on an auspicious note, defeating Blackwater, 104-87, on Thursday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Myke Henry set the tone for the Road Warriors, Robert Bolick flirted with a triple double, and the Road Warriors opened their Group B campaign with a win in Uichico’s first game since replacing Frankie Lim as head coach.
Henry had 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Bolick had 24 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists for the Road Warriors, who led by as many as 27 points before the Bossing came alive in the final quarter.

JUNE Mar Fajardo had 37 points and 24 rebounds in his first game since winning his eighth MVP to carry San Miguel to a 111-107 win over Phoenix on Wednesday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-foot-10 Cebuano big man started the season with the same dominance he showed in the last one, helping the Beermen keep the Fuelmasters from essaying an upset in a Group B game that became interesting near the end.
Ricci Rivero went for the win by taking a four-point shot with Phoenix down, 110-107, which he missed, before Fajardo extended the lead to four on a split from the free-throw line on the next possession.

TNT buried the key shots in the end game to outlast NorthPort, 101-95, on Tuesday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and four steals in an all-around effort in his first game back in the PBA.
Calvin Oftana nailed a three off an assist from Hollis-Jefferson with 2:43 left in the game, one of the key plays in TNT’s 12-2 stretch after the match was tied at 85-85 during the five-minute mark of the fourth.

Rain or Shine flexes added firepower in rout of Blackwater
RAIN or Shine rookie Caelan Tiongson impressed in his Philippine pro debut as the Elasto Painters beat Blackwater, 110-97, on Tuesday in the PBA 49th Season Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Tiongson aided the Elasto Painters in building a big lead to earn a solid win to open its campaign in Group B against No. 2 draftee Sedrick Barefield and the rest of the Bossing.

Chris Banchero on four-point shot: 'It's fun playing with it
CHRIS Banchero made history by making the PBA’s first four-point shot in an official game, which wasn’t exactly a surprise for Meralco.
“Everybody was saying that,” said Banchero. “It’s always good to be in the record books. I’m happy I got to make it.”
Banchero made the four-point shot with 10:26 remaining in the second quarter, giving Meralco the lead, 20-17. The 35-year-old Banchero hoisted the shot from the right wing after receiving a pass from Allen Durham.
His four-point shot helped Meralco grabbed a 99-94 win over Magnolia in the opener of the PBA 49th season Governors’ Cup.
