CHRIS Banchero made a bit of history by becoming the first player to make a four-point shot in the PBA during Sunday’s opener of the 49th Season at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Banchero made the shot in the second quarter on his first attempt and the third of the game, incidentally all taken by Meralco players.
Banchero converted the breakthrough four-point shot at the 10:26-mark of the second quarter, enabling the Bolts to reclaim the lead, 20-17.

The first four-point shot of the PBA was made from the right wing in front of the Magnolia bench, off a hand-off by Meralco import Allen Durham.
Chris Newsome was the first PBA player to attempt a four-point shot in the first quarter of rhe season opener, while rookie CJ Cansino took the second to attempt from the 27-foot distance in the second quarter.
Another Meralco player made the second four-point shot in league history with Jolo Mendoza banking in one at the 1:06-mark of the second quarter.
In the dying seconds of the first half, Magnolia attempted its first four-point shot with Jerick Ahanmisi hoisting one from near halfcourt.
