MATT Ganuelas-Rosser has been monitoring the play of his brother Brandon in the PBA 3x3, and he is happy but not surprised to see his younger brother raise his stock ahead of the the next PBA Rookie Draft.
“I’m extremely proud of my brother and his accomplishments and what he has been able to do in his career so far,” he said. “All the guys who started their career during the pandemic, it’s been really hard. It’s like trying to get momentum to get going.
“I’m proud of him and him being a leader on his team and I know the future is bright for him,” the newly-signed TNT guard said.
The 27-year-old Rosser was fresh from playing for Limitless App in the PBA 3x3 where he was a key player in the Appmasters’ run to the inaugural title last December.
The 6-foot-7 Rosser previously played for San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) but his second season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the regional league to stop play.
PBA draft rules relaxed
Rosser initially attempted to apply for the last PBA draft but league rules state that, unlike his brother who is considerd a local since he was born in Olongapo City, the UC Riverside product is a Fil-foreigner having been born outside the country.
Being a Fil-foreigner required a more stringent process during last year’s draft but the rules have since been relaxed.
Rosser said he was already aware of his brother's skills, but what impressed him more was how Brandon was able to stand the physicality during the Appmasters' run despite the absence of competitive games during the pandemic.
“I know the talent my brother has. I know he works extremely hard. I’ve been watching my brother play ever since. I know what he is capable of. I will say that I was kinda surprised how quickly he was able to turn it around.
“The style of basketball especially in 3x3 is physical. I think for him, he has to kinda adjust not taking the physicality personal. I think a lot of players, they kinda take it personal. The only advice I gave him really was these guys are out here playing hard,” said Ganuelas-Rosser.
The 31-year-old Ganuelas-Rosser said he is in full support of his brother, whatever his plans are moving forward.
“I’m not sure what he is going to do yet after this 3x3 stint but wherever he goes, he has my full support. I know he is going to succeed wherever he goes,” he said.
