UNIVERSITY of the East began its offseason player haul with the addition of one-and-done Fil-Canadian hotshot David Penney for UAAP Season 87.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Penney dished out 12.1 points, 3.4 boards, and 3.3 dimes for Simon Fraser University — the same school where his soon-to-be fellow Red Warrior Hunter Cruz-Dumont, Jack's younger brother, played for.

Penney's move to the UAAP was confirmed by Anthony Brodett of Phenom Championship Clinic, who represents the newest UE playmaker, in a Facebook post on Thursday morning.
"Can't wait to join the University of the East and play with John (Abate), Jack (Cruz-Dumont), Precious (Momowei), and play for coach Jack Santiago. Bomba UE," Penney said.
A point guard acquisition is a rather timely one for the Red Warriors in light of the shock exit of UAAP Season 86 Mythical Five selection and MVP race runner-up Rey Remogat, who'll be taking his talents to the University of the Philippines in Season 88 after serving his residency year.
In UE's post-Remogat era beginning later this year, Penney & Co. look to build on a promising sixth-place campaign last season and put an end to the school's 15-year Final Four drought.
