TOUGH as the road back might have been for Mika Reyes the second time around, her on-court comeback for PLDT was made more special by a much-awaited mini-reunion of La Salle’s finest stars.
The injury bug struck Reyes twice over the past year as she had to undergo surgery on her right shoulder — prompting her to sit out the last two conferences dating back to 2023.
And as the High Speed Hitters began their 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference campaign, Reyes made her first PVL start and had three points to her name.

It’s been a long time coming and work still has to be done, but PLDT's new tower is proud to have made progress, no matter how incremental.
“Siyempre, kailangan ko rin i-prioritize ‘yung sarili ko kasi kailangan ko maka-recover din agad and so far, nakaabot naman ako sa timeline ko and nakalaro ako this conference," she said.
“Nakakapagod. Matagal din naman kami nag-prepare so in-expect din namin na mahihirapan talaga makuha ‘yung panalo. But then again, ‘yung tiyaga ng bawat isa sa amin, ‘yun talaga ‘yung nakatulong.”
Holding that La Salle banner, high and bright
In the two-hour, 40-minute contest, Reyes was able to share the court in the pros for the very first time with her former De La Salle Lady Spikers standouts Majoy Baron and Kim Fajardo.
Reyes, Fajardo and Baron - alongside an on-the-mend Kianna Dy - were all at the core of the Taft side’s UAAP Season 78 championship run.
Years later, after seasons of on-court duels as rivals in the PVL and the now-defunct Philippine Superliga (PSL), it’s been nothing but pure joy to don the same colors once more with her champion sisters.
“Sakto lang,” Reyes said in jest.
“First time ko lang ulit sila makasama sa totoong game pero siguro, since nakakasama ko na rin sila early this year (in training), parang wala rin namang pagbabago. Pero I’m very happy na sila ulit kasama ko ngayon.”
