JAMIE Lim is taking a page off her late father’s playbook as she ventures into a new career in sportscasting.
The 28-year-old karateka and two-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medalist in kumite made her on-screen debut as a courtside reporter on opening day of the 2025 PVL Invitational on Thursday.
Like his PBA Hall of Famer dad Samboy Lim, one who will always live on as Jamie’s personal hero, adapting his unparalleled work ethic is one she looks to carry and showcase to the league’s hundreds and thousands of viewers worldwide.

“My dad always worked so hard. Even if he was already a legend, he would still be the first one in the court and the last one out in practice,” Lim shared with SPIN.ph.
“That's just how I want to approach this, just like how I approach school or karate. It's just to really work hard, keep getting better and never settle.”

Being a courtside reporter isn’t the first time Lim entered a foreign field of sorts for her.
While pursuing her martial arts career, she also completed her mathematics degree in University of the Philippines Diliman and graduated summa cum laude.
This time, with a new chapter entailing a new challenge, Lim is ready to take a deep dive into a new career path altogether.
“This is actually very challenging. As a math major, my communication [hasn’t always been sharp] but I'm doing my best and I just try to internalize what I felt as an athlete and then I try to get that out of them,” Lim said.
“It’s so easy talking to these athletes. I love how they share their stories and it's so easy for me to craft stories because they make it easy.
“We play different sports but at the end of the day, it's still the same values, still the same lessons that we take every game. Losses are hard, wins are great and I love that that's something we have in common and I just want to make that shine.”
Standing her ground in a team game
Lim’s first few grasps of a new team sport, albeit from the sidelines, has been an enlightening experience in the brief time she’s spent as a sportscaster so far.
It’s one that has taught her a lot and one where she believes can still learn so much more.
“I’m used to karate, an individual sport, so seeing a team sport and the dynamics and even the behind the scenes, it's super interesting to me,” Lim said.
“I love that there's a common theme in working hard and the discipline really pays off and wanting a win.
“I’ve seen different styles and the way they speak to these athletes, the way they cover their stories, it's just inspiring and I want to do the same thing and so today I'm happy that I got to do that.”
