ONE conference that ended without a championship won’t tarnish the eight-year legacy Creamline has built.
Cool Smashers veterans Alyssa Valdez and Michele Gumabao said they have every reason to still be pleased with capturing the fourth PVL bronze medal of the franchise against the Cignal HD Spikers in the PVL on Tour.
It marked the team’s 18th consecutive podium finish in as many PVL conferences since the team and league’s inception in 2017.

And even as the league continues to grow with new players and new teams, Creamline’s consistency at the highest level remains second to none.
“To look at the bright side, sabi nga kanina na hindi namin alam na 18th straight podium finish ng Creamline ‘to,” Gumabao said. “At the end of the day, we’re still consistent. It has still never been done. To be consistent is also one of the hardest things to do.”
For Gumabao, who had 21 points in the podium-clinching sweep, to win games is one thing, to win titles is another thing, but to win again and again and again is special.
“I think madali manalo, madali mag-champion, but to do it over and over again is also the hardest thing.
“Nandun pa rin at hindi pa rin nawawala. One season na hindi nag-champion is not the end for us. We just really have to do better, and we will.”
Valdez refuses to believe that having their seven-conference finals streak snapped in the preseason is by any means the beginning of the end for the Cool Smashers.
In fact, it’s a new challenge for them to raise the bar that no other team in the league’s eight-year history has ever reached nor come close to.
“This bronze medal match doesn’t define the Creamline Cool Smashers as a team. It’s the 18 consecutive [podiums] and consistently being there ever since siguro,” Valdez said.
“We fell short this time but definitely, we’re gonna be very competitive and push each other to be better pa rin talaga in the coming conferences.
“We’re just very, very glad now. At this point, every game is important. Every win for us is worth celebrating and we’re just happy that we’re celebrating it together as a team and as a family.”
