THE showdown for the title in the 89th NCAA women's volleyball tournament begins on Friday, with University of Perpetual Help gunning for a third straight title and first-time finalist Arellano University looking to steal the limelight at The Arena in San Juan.
The opener of the best-of-three title series starts at 11:30 a.m.
Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar says the championship experience gives the Lady Altas the edge, with do-it-all player Honey Tubino and reigning MVP Norie Jane Diaz leading the way.
"Lamang kami siguro sa puso dahil defending champion kami. Experience-wise, we also have the advantage," said Acaylar.
The Lady Chiefs are in the finals for the first time since joining the league in 2009 and are hoping to get all the way to the top spot of the podium.
With Danna Henson, Menchie Tubiera and Cristine Rosario leading the way, the lady spikers from Arellano earned a spot in the title showdown by defeating College of St. Benilde, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20.
Perpetual Help disposed of San Sebastian, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20, to stay on track for a third straight title.
The Lady Altas and Lady Chiefs collide anew just a week after facing off in the eliminations, a match won by the former in five sets.
