AFTER the University of Santo Tomas Tigers' bubble trouble in Sorsogon, it's the National University women’s volleyball team that's taking some heat for allegedly conducting training in violation of quarantine protocols.
Since the start of the lockdown in March, team training for non-professional teams has been prohibited by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF). Public gyms have also remained closed.
Also, the IATF also barred people under the age of 21 from leaving their homes, except for essential matters.
However, posts on social media suggesting that members of the NU Lady Bulldogs have been working out since May, both in their main campus in Sampaloc, Manila and in Laguna, have put the heat on the school.
Clips and photos, including one as recent as August 9, were posted by team staff themselves. Some have since been deleted.
SPIN.PH has sought out NU Lady Bulldog’s head coach Norman Miguel as well as assistant coach Regine Diego for comments.
In a message, Diego said the school will release a statement on Monday.
An IATF-created body made up of representatives of the Department of Health (DoH), Games and Amusement Board (GAB) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) have been tasked to oversee the gradual return of sports amid the pandemic.
However, the body has so far only allowed professional teams in basketball, football, and boxing to return to training in areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), in limited number and under stringent health protocols.
Amateur and varsity teams have yet to get the green light.
