CYD Demecillo hopes to play libero more often after marking his return from injury by playing in a new position for De La Salle on Saturday in a UAAP women's volleyball game against University of the East.

The graduating Lady Spiker admitted she was happy to be back on the court after being sidelined by a right knee injury - and thrilled to play a position she has only played a couple of times in her long career.

“Tuwang tuwa ako,” said Demecillo after emerging from a one-hour stretching by the team at the Mall of Asia Arena dugout. “Sobrang dream ko rin maging libero. Masaya.”

Demecillo, an open spiker for most of her La Salle career, bared she had played libero twice prior to Saturday’s match but now wants to do it more often if given the opportunity by La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus.

    “Why not? Siyempre,” said Demecillo.

De Jesus said he played Demecillo as a libero to get her game going upon her return from injury, adding he felt the Lady Spikers veteran wasn't fit enough to return to a spiker role.

"Ginawa ko na siyang libero dahil hindi pa siya fit sa pagiging spiker," De Jesus said.

Demecillo said her background in beach volleyball also helped her adjust to the new position.

“Sobrang natutuwa ako kasi bagong position. Isa rin daw ‘yun sa sinasabi nila na strength ko (defense) kasi sa beach volleyball, dun ko na-practice ‘yung defense ko. At least nagamit ko naman,” said Demecillo.

As for her injury, Demecillo said she was cleared by doctors to play and, in fact, was already in uniform for the game against Adamson last March 20, but De Jesus decided to give her more time to recover.

“Cleared na ako ng doctors. Pero siguro, dahan dahan lang. Siyempre, ayoko naman ma-injure uli,” Demecillo said.
