AT just 19 years old, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is about to step into the biggest match of her career against five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Światek in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open.
Eala's historic showdown comes after the world No. 2 defeated Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in the round of 16, 7-6 (5), 6-3, to advance to the Final Eight against a trailblazing Filipina ranked 138 places below her in the WTA rankings at No. 140.
READ Eala makes first-ever WTA quarterfinal as Badosa out injured
Earlier in the day, Eala earned her first-ever ticket to a WTA quarterfinal via walkover after Spain's Paula Badosa withdrew due to a back injury.
Eala and Światek previously shared the stage in 2023 when the Filipina sensation graduated from the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, where the former world No. 1 from Poland was the special guest of the ceremony.

This time, they will stand on opposite ends of the court in Miami - with Swiatek looking to take a step closer to a 23rd WTA title and Eala dreaming of reaching the semifinals in the world's grandest tour for the very first time.
Their highly anticipated match is set on Wednesday, Manila Time.
But regardless the result, Eala is already guaranteed the best result of her pro career and $189,075 (about P10.8 million) in prize money - thanks to victories over Australian Open winner Madison Keys and former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko.
