FILIPINA teenager Alexandra Eala has landed in a tough draw at the 2025 Madrid Open, where she's in line to face some familiar foes, including the tournament’s defending champion, Iga Swiatek of Poland.
Eala, 19, is coming off a breakout run at the Miami Open, where she shocked Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Swiatek to become the first Filipina to defeat a Top 10 player and reach the semifinals of a major WTA 1000 event.

Now, in Madrid, she finds herself in the same section as second-seed Swiatek and No. 23 seed Ostapenko once again.
Swiatek drew an opening bye and begin her campaign in the second round, where she will face either Wang Xiyu or Ana Bogdan.
Eala will have to defeat Lesia Tsurenko, ranked No. 239, in the first round, then world No. 119 Sorana Cirstea to get another shot at Swiatek.
Ostapenko is also in the same section of the draw.
The WTA 1000 Madrid main draw begins April 22.
