Trouble in Norway camp ahead of Filipinas match?

The Philippine women’s football team tries to capitalize on a Norway squad that’s showing signs of weakness ahead of their crucial 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup match on Sunday.

The Norwegians remain highly favored as the 12th-ranked country in the world, but they have shown signs of turmoil after settling for a scoreless draw against Switzerland last Tuesday, leaving the door wide for all four teams in Group A, including the Filipinas, to advance to the knockout stage.

Norway badly missed star striker Ada Hegerberg, who suffered an apparent injury after the signing of the national anthems before the match against the Swiss.

Another high-profile Norway striker Caroline Graham Hansen also expressed her disappointment before international media when she came off the bench in the second half against the Swiss.

Can the Filipinas, who are oozing with confidence after a historic 1-0 win over New Zealand last Tuesday, take advantage?

Jordan Clarkson camp says he’s not in Gilas for money

Jordan Clarkson underlined his commitment to the Philippines after his camp released a statement following rumors of his unavailability for Gilas Pilipinas, which is deep in its preparations for the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup.

"We're humbled by Jordan embracing the opportunity to represent his Filipino roots once again and compete in the 2023 FIBA World Cup alongside his fellow countrymen. There's one thing for certain and two things for sure: 1) Jordan's not Filipino for convenience but Filipino by blood and 2) Never question his commitment to honor his word.”

It seems Clarkson’s camp also didn’t demand for a steep price for his services as the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is paying a reasonable insurance premium of around $520,000 to secure an NBA-required insurance binder worth an estimated $13 million.

Clarkson is expected to fly straight to China on August 6 in time for Gilas’ pocket tournament.

      TNT joins Maverick Ahanmisi sweepstakes

TNT has joined a San Miguel team in making a bid for top free agent Maverick Ahanmisi.

Top agent Danny Espiritu, who handles Ahanmisi, made the confirmation in a phone interview.

"Hinihintay ko lang ang pagbalik niya dito sa Pilipinas and siya na ang mag-decide kung sa TNT siya pupunta or sa SMC group," Espiritu said.

Ahanmisi has a standing offer to join a team in the San Miguel group after failing to come to terms on a new contract with his mother team, the Converge FiberXers.
