THE Philippines beat Myanmar, 2-0, on Friday to start its campaign in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games men’s football competition at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chang Mai, Thailand.

Alex Monis got the PMNT U-22 team to a promising start to the tournament with a goal in the 19th minute, before the lead doubled in the 50th on an own goal by Latt Wai Phone.

The Philippines' win atoned for the Filipinas' loss to Myanmar, 2-1, on an 89th-minute goal by May Htet Lu in Chonburi.

The Pinoy footballers next face reigning gold medalist Indonesia on Monday to wrap up Group B play with a win sending the team to a place in the semifinals.

    Even with a defeat to Indonesia, the Philippines can still progress if it becomes the best second-placed team from the three groups.
