THE Filipinas opened their 33rd Southeast Asian Games women’s football campaign on a heartbreaking note, losing to Myanmar, 2-1, in Chonburi, Thailand.
An 89th-minute header by substitute May Htet Lu in front of goal over Filipinas ‘keeper Olivia McDaniel turned out to be the match winner for Myanmar before a pro-Burmese crowd at the IPE Chonburi Stadium.

Mallie Ramirez scored the game-tying goal in the 70th to make it 1-1, but the Filipinas couldn’t hold on.
Myanmar got on the board early with a goal by Win Theingi Tun in the fourth minute, and eventually regained the lead with that late goal to gain the full three points and the early lead in Group B.
The Philippines will next face Vietnam on Monday at the Chonburi Stadium.
