HANOI – Jones Llabres Inso missed the gold by the slimmest of margins, falling .01 point short at the start of the wushu competitions of the 2021 Southeast Asian Games.

Zhi Yan Tan won the gold medal in the men’s taijiquan with a score of 9.71 to beat Inso, who led the field until the Malaysian's performance.

Inso tallied 9.70 to start off the competition, but was overtaken by Zhi, the final competitor among the nine entries.

It was still a fine finish for Inso, according to Wushu Federation Philippines president Freddie Jalasco, as the national team was not able to train consistently over the past several months due to the pandemic.

It was also an auspicious start to the wushu campaign that saw Francisco Solis and Clemente Tabugara advancing to the semifinals of the 56 kilogram and 70 kilogram category respectively for at least a bronze medal.
