JERROLD Mangliwan advanced to the final of the men’s 400 meters T52 as Agustina Bantiloc was ousted in the archery competitions of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
Mangliwan placed fourth in Heat 1 with a time one minute, 5.79 seconds at the Stade De France - enough to secure a place in the final as one of the next two fastest times outside the top three placers in the two heats.
Mangliwan will compete for a medal on Saturday, also at the Stade De France.
Bantiloc exits
Bantiloc, however, crashed out of the women’s 1/16 elimination round, after losing to No. 5 Jane Karla Gogel of Brazil, 143-127.
Bantiloc, who finished last out of the 28 competitors in the ranking round, only got two 10’s against the eight 10’s of Gogel.
Mangliwan will be hard-pressed to secure a podium finish with Maxine Carabin of Belguim, who is also the world record holder in the event, clocking 54.48 seconds in the heats. Japan’s Tomoki Sato and Tomoya Ito have the next two best times at 58.04 and 1:00.42, respectively.
The Asian Para Games gold medalist is looking to atone for a forgettable fifinish in the 2020 Tokyo Games where he was disqualified in the final.
Aside from the final of Mangliwan, Ernie Gawilan and Allein Ganapin will also be in action in separate events. Gawilan will compete in Heat 2 of the men’s 200m individual medley SM7 in swimming at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Ganapin begins his campaign in para taekwondo as he faces Hadi Hassanzada of Refugee Paralympic Team in the men’s K44 -80kg round of 32 at the Grand Palais.
