THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said it will be implementing strict health and safety protocols inside its bubble where aspirants for the Tokyo Olympics are training at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

PSC national training director Marc Velasco said everything is in place for the athletes from boxing, taekwondo, and karate who are now inside the so-called ‘Calambubble’ in order to train for the next three months.

“In terms of testing, we test them almost every week from the time they enter. Medyo stringent po ‘yung testing,” said Velasco during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association online edition.

Velasco said the 57 athletes, coaches, and PSC personnel were required to undergo RT-PCR testing two to seven days before they left for the bubble where they will be again tested upon entry.

He added athletes and coaches are required to wear face masks and face shields inside the bubble except during the actual training.

If athletes and coaches have a ‘bubble breach’, Velasco said they will be isolated for five to 10 days.

Deliveries are allowed, said Velasco, but sanitation procedures will be implemented.

Velasco said the PSC is also prepared for a situation where someone tests positive inside the bubble, in which case, the person will be transported directly to the quarantine facility such as the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and Philsports Arena.

Velasco said the Inspire Sports Academy is equipped with the training facilities such as boxing ring and mats which was transported by the PSC recently.

“We are trying our best to make the athletes’ stay there comfortable and also they will be able to train really well. It has sufficient facilities… In terms of equipment, kumpleto sila. They have been installing since the weekend. Ready na ang facility. Food is really good. Our medical team is there, the local government is offering a help,” said Velasco.
