MAXINE Esteban of Ivory Coast lost to Pauline Ranvier of France, 15-7, in the table of 32 of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games women’s individual foil fencing competitions at the Grand Palais.
The Filipina-Ivorian fell behind 13-4, at the end of the first period and never recovered, bringing a quick end to her Olympic debut.
Last year, Esteban switched nationalities from the Philippines to Ivory Coast and later earned a berth in the Paris Olympics as the best African in the Adjusted Official Ranking of the International Fencing Federation.

Esteban, ranked No. 27 in the world, faced off against Ranvier, who was part of the silver-winning France team in the women’s team foil in Tokyo.
Esteban’s former Philippine teammate Sam Catantan also bowed out in the table of 32 after a 15-12 loss to world No. 2 Arianna Errigo of Italy.

Catantan, ranked No. 266 in the world, was able to capture a victory before her ouster, beating Brazil's Mariana Pistoia, 15-13, in the table of 64.
