RIO DE JANEIRO — Following the early exits of three athletes in Day One of the Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz and Nestor Colonia see action on Sunday (Monday, Manila time) in weightlifting.
Diaz and Colonia see action at the Riocentro Pavilion 2.
Diaz will compete beginning at 3:30 p.m. (2:30 a.m. Manila time), while Colonia is set for action at 7 p.m. (6 a.m. Manila time).
Diaz battles 12 other weightlifters in the 53kg division, confident after a bronze-medal win in the 2015 World Championship in Houston.
Coach Alfonsito Aldanete is keeping expectations modest.
“Kung sa potential, malaki ang potential niya mag-medal. Pero ‘yung kalaban, ganun din. Hindi natin masabi dahil lahat naman nag-prepare sa laro,” said Aldanete in an interview in Manila.
Colonia lifted 282 kilograms in last year’s world championship, fifth best in the Olympic qualification ranking list.
