RIO DE JANEIRO—Jessie Khing Lacuna finished sixth in Heat Two of the men’s 400m freestyle of the Olympics and fell short of making the finals of the event held at the Olympic Aquatic Centre here Saturday (Sunday, Manila time)
Lacuna clocked four minutes, 1.70 seconds in his heat, effort that was not enough for him to advance into the next round, where the top eight swimmers from the 50 participants who competed in seven heats will make the finals.
He finished 46th overall.
Lacuna also fell short of breaking his personal best of 3:55.34 he set in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
The Filipino swimmer got off to a respectable start as he was running fourth after the first 50 meters, until Martin Naidich of Argentina and Irakli Revishvili caught up with him in the final 150 meters.
Lacuna’s failure to advance came just a few hours after table tennis bet Ian Lariba bombed out in the first round of the women’s singles against Han Xing of Congo.
