THE Philippines waited nearly a century to win its first gold medal in the Olympics.

Carlos Yulo won his second gold in Paris after just 24 hours.

The Filipino star gymnast topped the vault final of the 2024 Paris Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics to close this Games with two gold medals to take home in a historic feat at the Bercy Arena that was beyond the fans' wildest imagination.

Yulo became the first-ever Filipino athlete to win multiple gold medals in the Olympics, just a day after claiming Philippine gymnastics’ first-ever during Saturday’s floor exercise final.

The 24-year-old Yulo scored an average of 15.166, fueled by an impressive handspring double front half out piked for a 15.433 in the first vault before closing with a Kasamatsu double twist for a 14.800.

Unlike the day before when he was an emotional wreck upon learning that he had won the floor exercise gold, there were no tears this time for Yulo although he still looked in disbelief of the unprecedented feat.

During the victory ceremony, Yulo uttered the words “All God, All God” in front of the camera, and briefly glanced at the gold before the Philippine national anthem was played for the second time in the Paris Olympics.

Yulo seemed more relaxed as well in his third final of this Games, and seemed oblivious to the feud between his mother Angelica and girlfriend Chloe San Jose that played out in public after his win.

That state of mind reflected in the performance. The 15.166 matched the score of Great Britain's Jake Jarman during the vault of the men’s all-around final.

Artur Davtyan of Armenia, the 2021 world vault champion, was the last person that stood in the way of Yulo’s double gold bid but ended up with an average score of 14.966, good for a silver medal.
