THE PHILIPPINE men’s regu team was defeated by Malaysia in their semifinal to take the bronze medal in the 20th Asian Games sepak takraw competitions in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Jason Huerte, Jom Lerry Rafael, Reynaldo Asilum Jr., and Ronsited Gabayeron won the first set before Malaysia, the reigning Southeast Asian Games champion and Asian Games silver medalist in men’s regu, showed its class to pull off a 10-15, 15-11, 15-7 victory at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium.

But by virtue of its semifinal finish, the Philippines added a bronze medal in sepak takraw, a similar result to the Hangzhou Asian Games where it lost via sweep to Malaysia.
The Nationals started with a 15-11, 15-7 loss to Thailand in Group B, but claimed the last semifinal berth with a 15-10, 15-4 win over Japan.
The Philippines goes for a gold medal in the women’s double on Tuesday against Vietnam following the win of Jean Marie Sucalit, Abegail Sinogbuhan, and Nelly Jay Salon against Laos, 15-12, 15-10, in the semifinals.
