CARLOS Yulo is through to the vault finals of the 2026 Asian Games artistic gymnastics competition despite a mistake during the qualification round on Monday.
Yulo finished inside the top eight – seventh to be exact – of the apparatus after results of the second and final subdivision of the men’s all-around qualification came in, earning a place in the finals of the vault where he is the reigning Olympic champion.

Only Kim Jaeho of Korea, silver medalist in the recent Asian Championship, surpassed the score of Yulo from the gymnasts that competed in the second subdivision, giving the Filipino superstar gymnast an opportunity to make up and compete for the gold in the apparatus final scheduled on Friday.
Kim was among the three gymnasts from the second subdivision who were performing two vaults, meaning they were seeking a finals berth in the apparatus like Yulo.
There was an anxious moment at the start of the campaign when Yulo had a horror first vault when he landed on his bottom to score only 13.166.
He was able to pick up the pieces in Vault 2 where he registered 14.133 for an average of 13.649 to stay in sixth place after the first subdivision.
He will be joined in the vault final by compatriot Miguel Besana, who placed fourth in the apparatus with an average of 13.933.
Ka Ki Ng of Hong Kong topped the vault qualification with an average of 14.166 followed by Kim with 14.149, and Asian Championship bronze medalist Mahdi Olfati of Iran with a 14.083.
