NORTHPORT did its own share in helping victims of tropical storm Kristine.
The Batang Pier held an outreach program for some 200 families under Barangay Sto. Nino in Binan City, Laguna who were affected by the non-stop rain and subsequent flooding brought by last week’s storm.
The activity was held on Oct. 28 and initiated by NorthPort coach Bonnie Tan in coordination with barangay captain Dennis Hernandez.
PBA donates Game One gate receipts to Kristine victims
The Chowking KNC Group of Companies supported the Batang Pier in the worthy endeavor led by Kenneth Chua together with the Guerrero Brotherhood as directed by GG Judge Ralph Lee and represented by Jack Sta. Rita.
With the exception of Arvin Tolentino and Jio Jalalon, the entire Northport team showed up during the outreach program including controversial sophomore guard John Amores.
Joining the team were Paolo Taha, rookie Evan Nelle, William Navarro, Cade Flores, Sidney Onwubere, Damie Cuntapay, Fran Yu, Allyn Bulanadi, Amores, and Paul Zamar, who went straight to Laguna after doing his rehab following a recent ACL surgery.
Amores is currently under suspension from the PBA after being charged with frustrated homicide together with his brother following a shooting incident over a pickup game held in Lumban Laguna a month ago.
The Jose Rizal University product is currently out on bail.
Although suspended without pay for the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup, Amores was allowed to join team practices and other activities of the franchise.
But the Amores issue notwithstanding, the Batang Pier were there for a worthy as the team remains ‘committed to helping the community in hopes the efforts bring some solace during these challenging times,’ as per the Northport statement.

The laudable undertaking came after the PBA donated the entire proceeds of Game 1 of the Governors’ Cup finals between Barangay Ginebra and TNT to victims of tropical storm Kristine.
The series opener proved to be a blockbuster as it drew the largest crowd ever to watch a game live at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. An audience of 11,020 were on hand as the defending champions Tropang Giga defeated the Kings, 104-88.
