THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) officially announced adidas as the official outfitter of the country's Gilas Pilipinas national teams on Friday.

“I’m delighted to announce adidas PH has joined us as the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas,” said SBP president Al S. Panlilio during the federation’s National Congress at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall.
Panlilio formalized the deal with Adidas Philippines Country Manager Dave Sexton.
Together, the two exchanged Adidas and SBP pins as gesture of the new partnership.
The announcement comes three months after the SBP confirmed reports that it has split with longtime Gilas outfitter Nike.
Adidas has been largely silent about any deal on the Gilas kits, but over the last few weeks has been dropping hints on billboards across Metro Manila.

Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed, but the Gilas men's team will begin wearing their new Adidas kits by the Fiba Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in August.
“Since February there has been much anticipation, speculation about who will be the next or the new outfitter for our beloved Gilas Pilipinas,” said Panlilio. “I know many of you has been eagerly awaiting this announcement, actually the worst kept secret, if I may say so.
“Holding out on your shopping spree so we all can stay in the brand for future SBP events," he added. "Today the wait is finally over. And I’m thrilled to share my excuse to all of you."
“It’s a real honor and privilege to stand with such a committed group (SBP) for the growth and advancement of the sports of basketball. And adidas is truly honored to be the official outfitter of Gilas Pilipinas,” added Sexton for his part.
“So we look forward to a successful partnership with SBP and of course, seeing Gilas Pilipinas shine on the international stage.”
As a way to commemorate the event, a special black cap with the sun and three stars design along with adidas’ popular three stripes.
