Every turn of the year, you hear the same old resolutions—"I want to lose weight," "I want to save more money." But people often forget one of the most important ones that we all definitely must aspire to do more of this 2019: get some sleep.
Getting a healthy amount sleep will do wonders for you. And here's how you can build good habits to get more ZZZs this year without sacrificing your productivity.
Set a STRICT bedtime
Decide on a reasonable time to go to sleep. 10 p.m.? Most people would say, “I can't fall asleep that early,” but you may just be sabotaging your own body clock.
Realize that habits are the key to achieving your goal. If you stay up late watching Netflix every night, then your body gets used to that rhythm. On the flipside, if you train yourself to relax and wind down at a certain hour, then your body will eventually adjust back.
You’re going to need help keeping your bedtime promise
You need an alarm not to wake you up, but to remind you that it’s time to sleep. Take the reminder seriously so you build the routine. Whatever you’re working on, reading, or watching, pause it and continue the next day.
If you’re the fitness type that squeezes in workouts after work, try changing your routine and working out in the morning instead. Exercise activates the body which makes it more difficult to relax. Instead, try drinking some tea or warm milk in the evening to help you induce sleep.
