NOWADAYS, fitness is starting to look less like a solo grind and more like a social calendar.
Across Metro Manila, early morning run clubs, recovery sessions, and wellness gatherings are becoming the new way young Filipinos spend time together —trading loud night-outs for sunrise call times, iced coffees after runs, and group chats planning the next workout hangout.
That shift in culture is what Manulife Philippines tapped into with “Run and Recover,” a wellness initiative mounted with Makati-based run collective Just Show Up under the company’s broader “Time to MOVE” campaign.
The series focuses on making movement feel approachable, social, and sustainable. The idea mirrors the philosophy behind the run club where a community-driven running collective is built around consistency and connection rather than competition.
The first leg, 'The Kick-Off Experience' gathered around 150 participants for a 5KM community run through Makati with pacers leading different groups then runners headed to Spotted Pig in Rockwell afterward for a recovery breakfast, DJ sets, raffles, and a casual morning social that felt closer to a weekend hangout than a fitness program.
Its second installment, 'The Contrast Experience' pushes deeper into the recovery side of wellness —something increasingly embraced by younger fitness communities.
Held at Longevity Labs in BGC, the event pairs another community run with contrast therapy sessions featuring sauna and ice plunges, alongside refreshments and networking spaces designed for participants to stay, mingle, and recover together.

The initiative is part of Manulife Philippines’ 'Time to MOVE' campaign, which encourages Filipinos to take small but sustainable steps toward better well-being through its holistic health program, ManulifeMOVE.
The campaign was shaped by findings from Manulife’s Asia Care Survey 2026 and its #FYP: Future-proofing Young Pinoys study, which showed that while Filipinos are becoming more conscious about health and longevity, many still struggle to build habits that last.
Founded in 1907, Manulife Philippines is the local arm of Manulife Financial Corporation, one of the world’s largest life insurance companies by market capitalization.
