GREENLIT to restart their operations on August 1. Three days later, shut down once again.
But it’s an understandable turn of events, given the rising number of COVID-19 infections in the country. As the nation’s health and safety take priority, fitness gyms must once again shutter their doors or postpone their plans of reopening.
Now that modified enhanced community quarantine is back, here is a roundup of some gyms and other fitness facilities in NCR, Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna, and Cavite that have made announcements on their status, or updated patrons on how they can get their workouts.
Anytime Fitness
The giant fitness chain has announced the temporary closure of its branches in MECQ areas.
Biofitness Gym
Biofitness appeared in 24 Oras to discuss their safety protocols when they reopened on August 1. However, this QC gym has not updated their status following the MECQ announcement.
Climb Central Manila
The wall climbing haven in Pasig had been set to reopen on August 8. Now that looks like that will be on hold, but they have not made any announcement yet as of posting.
CrossFit Taft
Just before the reopening date of August 1, Crossfit Taft announced that it would move locations and open only once the pandemic is over. This follows a similar announcement from Avant Garde CrossFit in Mandaluyong back in July 18.
CrossFit Insurrecto
This QC box rolled out its safety protocols yesterday morning, encouraging members to book time slots and follow health protocols. However, it has not updated its guidelines since the MECQ announcement.
Fitness First
Scheduled to reopen today, the gym chain will no longer push through with its restart.
Gym na Gym
This Bulacan gym has been open since July 7. However, with the re-imposition of MECQ, it has announced that it will be closing temporarily.
Hammer Fitness
Baser Amer's gym in Cainta was scheduled to open its doors this Wednesday. But Mayor Kit Nieto's announcement has put the brakes on that.
Iron Planet Gym
Set to reopen today, this neighborhood gym in Cubao decided to hold off reopening for now.
Pound for Pound Fitness Makati
The fitness chain announced that it would be holding up its restart for the moment. Originally scheduled for August 3, the Makati branch had even been offering restart promos.
Maic’s Gym
The Marikina Gym is prioritizing the health and safety of its patrons, and will no longer accept online reservations for gym time on August 4.
Platinum Executive Fitness Gym
This gym advised its members that it will remain closed.
Sir Andrew’s Gym
Even before Duterte’s announcement of MECQ, Sir Andrew’s Gym in Cainta bowed down to Mayor Kit Nieto’s directive and decided to suspend their reopening.
Slimmer’s World
The longtime fitness chain’s branches will be temporarily closed starting August 4.
Sparta Philippines
Even with the greenlight, Mandaluyong-based Sparta had no announced plans of reopening. Its Zoom sessions continue.

Online classes continue in this Quezon City fitness center.
