Back to home workouts for now: Gyms reopening likely delayed with return of MECQ

NCR, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite return to MECQ on August 4
Aug 3, 2020

LATE last night, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) would return to Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Cavite.

Fitness establishments had earlier been given the green light to restart operations on August. They may now have to wait a little longer.

MECQ is the second highest level of quarantine. It was last enforced in NCR from May 16 to 31. During this period, so-called Category 4 businesses were not allowed to operate.

These include gyms, barbershops and salons, and personal care establishments.

Limited individual outdoor activities such as walking, run/jog, or bike, however, are allowed as long as citizens observe basic safety measures like social distancing of at least two meters, as well as the wearing of masks.

MECQ in these areas will begin at midnight, August 4, and will end after 15 days.

Several gyms have already been making announcements on their Facebook pages.
