SHOPPING destination — and fitness destination?

As more and more Pinoys take to bikes to get around during the pandemic, Greenhills management has set up dedicated bike parking and bike lanes all throughout the sprawling San Juan shopping complex.

In fact, bikers will take priority inside Greenhills from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. as the shopping complex gets set to implement priority lanes for early morning riders.

More bike-friendly features are only one side of the “Active Playground” concept that’s being rolled out across the commercial space.

While walking from mall to mall to check out finds has always been an inseparable part of the Greenhills experience, there will now be signs scattered across the complex to show you how many steps you’ve taken and how many calories you’ve already burned.

In addition, there will be “pop-up challenges” — casual workout prompts to encourage customers to hop, jump, or balance. Expect wellness-oriented motivational signs to also pop up here and there as you make your way through the shopping center.

“Since most of us have been cooped up at home in the past months, it is important to find creative ways of staying active and fit even when going about our day-to-day lives, such as grocery shopping, dining out or doing errands,” the company said in a statement.

Ortigas Malls hopes to roll out the Active Playground model to its two other malls — Estancia and Tiendesitas, both located in Pasig — soon.
