AFTER his fifth-place finish in last year’s race, Gerald Anderson vowed to step up his game in the Skechers Performance Run 2019 on August 11 at the SM MOA Complex.
The TV and movie actor says he's particularly psyched to run 10K after crossing the finish line at the 00:23:20 mark in the 5k race during the inaugural run of the event last year.
Anderson, who also plays for Imus Bandera alongside Jayjay Helterbrand, also hopes to convince his teammates to join him in the run. If they do, though, Gerald says it's likely they'll persuade him to run 5K instead.
“Yayayain ko [teammates ko] pero baka sa 5K kami bumagsak,” says Anderson during the launch of the Skechers Performance Run 2019 at Botan Black in BGC on July 4.
“May difference kasi ang running world sa basketball world," he explains. Siyempre sobrang kundisyon din ‘yung mga basketball players pero noong sinabi ko na, ‘5K tayo sa August 11.’ Sabi nila, ‘Ha? Hindi namin kayang mag-5K.’ Ibang culture siya talaga, ibang conditioning. Pero yayain ko ulit sila."
The Kapamilya actor is a known health and fitness advocate who regularly encourages everyone to give running a go.
“More than anything, running's more mental talaga dahil ‘yung happy hormones, ‘yung vibe mo after a good run parang iba eh. Sa sobrang haba ng tatakbuhin mo it’s like therapy and sobrang beneficial siya sa pagkatao mo.”
Running, he says, helps him to ease stress. "It's your alone time. And it allows you to get away sa mga kung anuman ang problema mo sa bahay or sa work."
The Skechers Performance Run 2019 is open for beginners, professional athletes, and families. A new category — a 3K walkathon — will be introduced this year, which is open for kids. The 5K, 10K, and 21K races are also now open for registration.
Runners can either register at Skechers braches in Glorietta, Festival Mall, Mall of Asia, TriNoma, and Market! Market! or via online at skechers.com.ph. To join, shell out P700, P900, P1,000, and P1,200 entry fee for the 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K respectively.
