ON its 9th year anniversary, Men’s Health raises a glass to nearly a decade of celebrating a healthy lifestyle. And for the May 2014 issue, actor Enrique Gil is the Men’s Health cover guy.
In this month’s cover story, Enrique shares how he wasn’t always comfortable in the spotlight. As a matter of fact, he tried his best to stay away from being the focus of anyone’s attention. It is hard to believe how this leading man was once a quiet and shy lad. “Pag may school play, I never wanted to be part of the cast... Sinasabi ko na ‘Ako na bahala sa effects natin’... sa gilid lang ako, tahimik lang ako”. As fate would have it, one lucky go-see with Star Magic Circle Batch 16 would be the starting point of his career, “He (Mr. Johnny Manahan) asked, ‘Do you want to be an artista?’ [Back then,] I didn’t know yet what I wanted. So I said, ‘Okay lang po.’” And the rest is history.
On MH’s Rapid Fire, Gil talks about his favourite dog breed, favourite childhood memory, after-work hobby, his dreams and plans for this year.
The concept for the Men’s Health pictorial was wakeboarding at Nuvali Republic WakePark. Gil was styled wearing board shorts, a round-neck tee, and flip-flops. Excited but nervous, Gil blurted out “First time ko tong mag-wakeboard!” as the action and the shoot begun. But after gaining some momentum and mastering his balance on the board, Enrique Gil became more comfortable and conquered his premature nervousness. Gil then opened up in the interview and shared his exercise routine despite his busy showbiz sched.
Also in this issue, ONE FC ring girl Christine Hallauer shares the three essentials that a guy must have to sweep even the feistiest of women off her feet. MH also presents the Heroes of Health and Fitness, eight different people from all walks of life who safeguard our sports, our environment, and our health.
