THE Philippines clinched a berth in the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup at the conclusion of the qualifying round across the continent on Sunday.
It's bid jeopardized by a 2-1 loss to Australia earlier, the Nationals advanced after ending up as the best third-placed team in the qualification phase with seven points (2-1-1 win-draw-loss) in Group C.
PH set for Futsal Asian Cup debut
It will mark the first time that the Philippines will play in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup to be played from May 6 to 17 in China.
Also making it to the Asian Cup are Thailand, Bahrain, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Chinese Taipei.
Two-time champions Iran, Japan, and host China were outright entries in the tournament.
After the loss to Australia on Sunday, the Philippines ended up in third place in Group C after Uzbekistan’s 5-2 win over Turkmenistan later in the day.
But the Nationals’ respectable showing early in the qualifiers proved to be the difference.
The Philippines defeated Kuwait, 4-1, last January 11 then forced Uzbekistan, ranked No. 18 in the world to a 3-3 draw last January 13. The team also beat Turkmenistan, 2-0, last January 15 to be in position for a place in the main tournament.
