SMART OMEGA has finally found their breakthrough after securing their first victory with a decisive sweep over Twisted Minds in MPL Philippines Season 15 Week 3 at Green Sun Hotel. Breaking their losing streak at last, the potential dark horse of the season has shown promise—but how important was a leader in making it happen?

One of the most intriguing aspects of Smart Omega’s new season is its captaincy. With Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog stepping back from the main lineup, a new leader emerges to take the helm—the gold laner Jomari “Jowm” Pingol.

“Jowm is our captain for this season. Una sa lahat, nag-agree kami lahat na si Jowm maging captain for S15 because outside the game he chose good values. As in lagi siyang maaga, on time, laging seryoso sa lahat ng scrims and RG,” Allec “SN4P” Alvarado revealed.

“Nagse-set siya ng example sa following teammates niya lalo na outside the game and in the game,” he added.

Although Yoshi filled in Ch4knu’s role as roamer, he still believes that they can both deliver their best performance.

“Para sa akin, kahit sino sa amin maglaro ni Ch4knu, feel ko kakayanin naman ng team na maipanalo yung games. Kumbaga, tiwala sa isa’t isa,” Czedrick “Super Yoshi" Romero said.

There's still a long road ahead for Smart Omega to shift their momentum, but for now, they find relief and a much needed confidence booster in getting on the scoreboard.

“Masaya syempre, kumbaga starting pa lang naman kami sa winning namin. Ang gusto ko lang na mangyari ay matuloy-tuloy yung panalo na yun. Tsaka may laban pa bukas sa Aurora,” Super Yoshi expressed.

“Nafi-feel ko lang ngayon is ready na kami kahit sino kalaban,” Jowm confidently said.

With the first half of the regular season fast approaching, they know they have to change tactics and stick to what they know and do best.

“The usual, kung anong ginagawa sa scrims na-apply naman. Yung strength ni Yoshi, yung aggressiveness niya, doon kami nag stick and tuloy-tuloy lang,” coach SN4P explained, maximizing Super Yoshi’s signature aggressive playstyle on Ruby to beat Twisted Minds in game one.

As the clock ticks and the stakes get higher, coach SN4P remains unfazed by pressure, choosing to concentrate on doing their best in each moment instead.

“Honestly, hindi ko iniisip yung number of games that are left. One step at a time, do our best, and that’s it,” he said.
