FNATIC ONIC Philippines secured their 11th consecutive win and clinched an upper bracket playoff spot as a bonus after staving off Aurora Gaming in the MPL Philippines Season 14 seventh week action at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.
In the history of MPL Philippines, Fnatic ONIC Philippines became the third team to achieve an 11-match win streak, tying the record held by Blacklist International from Season 8 and Team Liquid Philippines (formerly ECHO Philippines) from Season 12.
Coach Anthony "Ynot" Senedrin expressed his joy over the long win streak and upper bracket advantage that Fnatic ONIC Philippines earned and what it meant to the players.
“Masaya ako for the players. I mean, lalo na sa mga ‘to kasi parang si Frince, ilang season na si Prince, first time niyang makalagpas ng day one. Last season, masaya kami para kay K1NGKONG kasi nakaapak siya ng playoffs,” coach Ynot said, celebrating the milestones of Super Frince and K1NGKONG.
Frince "Super Frince" Ramirez marked his debut under the banner of ONIC Philippines (now Fnatic ONIC Philippines) in MPL Philippines Season 10, but he suffered early round eliminations in the following seasons until MPL Philippines Season 13.
Meanwhile, King "K1NGKONG" Perez first stepped into the professional scene with TNC Pro Team in MPL Philippines Season 11, not getting a taste of the playoff thriller until joining the Fnatic ONIC Philippines roster in MPL Philippines Season 13.
But Fnatic ONIC Philippines has now changed their fate with the upper bracket advantage, escaping the early elimination that they suffered in the previous four seasons.
The streak lives on
The Sonics are now one match win away from breaking the longest win streak of 11 match wins in the MPL Philippines, but the work is not yet done and the grind continues.
“Pero yun nga, again, laban pa kami bukas eh. So, I think una pa rin aral pa rin mamaya. (5:46) Yes, parang si Duane kanina. Actually, lahat sila pagkatapos nung series, “Coach, ano nangyari nung game two?” coach Ynot said, prioritizing the preparation against RSG and revealing how the team takes initiative in knowing their point for improvement.
