DUE TO his impressive performances in the Valorant Champions 2021, Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan was nominated by Upcomer.com as the best Jett player of the tournament.
In fact his performances have been integral for their campaign as Team Secret managed to secure a 5th-8th place finish, exceeding everyone’s expectations.
But for Paguirigan, being heralded as one of the best Jett players of the tournament wouldn’t be possible without the help of his teammates, as he told us in a Spin.ph Zoom In episode.
“Actually hindi ko siya in-expect kase hindi ako yung type ng tao na super focused sa individual performances so I believe the credit goes to my teammates always kase sila lang naman yung nagme-make everything possible eh lalo na yung mga plays ko,” said the former CS:GO player.
And this was proven in the VCT as it was his teammates who created opportunities for him, with their abilities allowed DubsteP to take over the spotlight.
“Kung hindi naman dahil sa utility ng teammates ko, hindi ko siya magagawa. So if ever na mangyari ulit yun, I will always look up to my teammates and will thank them for having the recognition that I got kase it’s an individual award.”
There are better Jett players, says DubsteP
But in the end, he admitted that there were better Jett players besides him.
“Hindi ako magaling mag-handle ng ganitong type ng bagay pero super nagulat ako kase hindi ko siya in-expect kase feeling ko hindi naman ako yung one of the best Jetts out there... pero I’ll take it,” he said.
Though DubsteP was recognized for his performances, the community opted to select Acend’s Mehmet Yagiz “cNed” Ipek.
His team was able to garner the championship trophy by beating Gambit Esports in a best-of-five slugfest. Prior to their meeting with Gambit, Acend eliminated the Filipino Valorant hopefuls in the quarterfinals.
Besides DubsteP and cNed, other noteworthy nominees were Tyson “TenZ” Ngo of Sentinels, Olavo “Heat” Marcelo of Vivo Keyd, Jacob “jay” Whiteaker of Team Envy, and Nikita “Derke” Simitev of Fnatic.
