AT LAST, Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno has finally secured the one major title that had eluded his career, as he was recently crowned an MSC champion.

Gone are the days when Karl was branded as ‘The Young GOAT,’ which is a moniker that I never enjoyed. Traditional sports has taught me one thing: ‘You’re either part of the GOAT discussions or not,’ and KarlTzy had already proven his status ever since his second world championship. (Heck, some would even go as far as giving him that title after the M2 run.)

KarlTzy is now the undisputed GOAT and the face of the MLBB esports scene.

Longevity is Key

Carlito “Ribo” Ribo Jr.’s era is long gone, and there was a point where KarlTzy became a slight afterthought when the Royal Duo of Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna and Danerie James “Wise” Del Rosario started banking trophies left and right.

But there is one thing that has truly elevated KarlTzy among the MLBB greats: his longevity.

Since Season 2 of the MPL PH, KarlTzy has been heavily involved in the pro scene. There’s only one notable player who has lasted longer than Karl, as Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel has been around since the very beginning. And just like his former teammate, Karl has proven to be a timeless player who has managed to adapt well throughout the years.

It’s funny how this used to be the one major criticism that nearly pulled KarlTzy down. If you look back at Season 9 of the MPL PH, Karl was stubborn about adapting to the tank jungler meta. This made me wonder if he had what it takes to evolve and bring his game to the next level. By the time Season 10 came, a different KarlTzy emerged, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Are there caveats to KarlTzy’s greatness?

When it comes to GOAT debates, there will always be caveats that fans often discuss. For example, some would argue that Michael Jordan is the greatest because he never lost in the NBA Finals and was statistically very efficient.

However, there are those who are skeptical about Jordan's status, especially when looking at some of the question marks. "Superteams" weren't as prominent back in the '90s since this was the decade when the league underwent an expansion phase, which meant that players were being evenly distributed across teams.

This is why others would put LeBron James as their GOAT. He is statistically more well-rounded, plus he dominated in an era where superteams existed and when team construction was modernized due to advanced data analytics. This also explains why some people can forgive LeBron for his 4-6 record in the NBA Finals.

However, there are still concerns about LeBron, especially when looking at his performances in the 2011 NBA Finals.

So, going back to KarlTzy, are there any loopholes in his overall legacy? Concerns about his stubbornness can be traced back to the time he refused to adapt to tank junglers in Season 9, or that MSC 2024 campaign when Coach Robert “Trebor” Sanchez commented on his inability to adapt quickly to the meta.

But these shouldn’t be a massive blemish on his career, as the GOAT himself has proven he can overcome these hurdles. Throughout the years, Karl has constantly evolved his craft to perfection.

Whether you’re watching the KarlTzy special Lancelot, or the time when Hariths or Esmeraldas were viable options, or that time when he played a Paquito or Karrie as a jungler, the GOAT has proven that no matter what he is given and no matter what era he's in, he can still play at his peak.

This ultimately makes him stand out, as Karl has proven to be a relic that is now immortalized.

CONCLUSION

For Karl to acknowledge that he is the face of the MLBB scene and the GOAT, saying: "I'm just really happy and really proud of myself that I became the GOAT," is such a refreshing look when talking about greatness in the MLBB esports scene.

Many players would cringe or feel intimidated upon being branded as the GOAT, especially since the moniker carries a heavy burden. Because of the weight of expectations, some might end up crumbling.

Karl, on the other hand, never seemed fazed by the idea of being the GOAT, and it seems this could further motivate him as he pushes on with his career. By acknowledging his GOAT status, Karl sees the crown not as a burden but a beacon for aspirants to look up to—a title that is earned through countless hours of hustling and grinding to be the best.

It's all about the mentality, and Karl is simply a legend in that regard.
