PALM SPRINGS, CA – Timothy Bradley compared training for a fight like ‘waiting for one’s death.’

As he closed training camp for his welterweight clash with Manny Pacquiao next week, Bradley poured his heart out and admitted fighting felt like dying.

“You feel like you’re dying. April 9. Just like the doctor saying you’ve got until April 9 to live,” said Bradley in between his abs exercises during his scheduled media workout Friday here (Saturday, Manila time).

“That’s the way it feels. You wanna know how a fighter feels every day? That’s the way a fighter feels, like he’s dying April 9.”

Counting the days, Bradley exactly has eight days left before facing death as he battles Pacquiao for the third time at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

But as he waits for it, the process he has to undergo under trainer Teddy Atlas is just killing him.

“Until that day happens, it’s pain, it’s agony every single day. You can’t enjoy life until that day comes,” he stressed.

Again, Bradley underscored all the hardship a fighter like him had to go through during that stretch.

“All that training is not fun, fight is not fun, but when you get the outcome that you’re training to do that’s when it’s fun,” he said. “But you’ve got through all this thing, you’ve got through all these storm.”

For Bradley to achieve ‘the outcome’ – like he did during his first match-up with Pacquiao four years ago – the American said he needs to be smarter than his Filipino opponent.

“I’ve got to be smarter than Manny Pacquiao that night. That’s how I can get the victory. If I’m smarter than Manny Pacquiao that night, I’m not taking my strength, I’m not taking my punching power because all that stuff can be eluded. They can all be eluded with boxer’s skills and ability and knowing what’s coming before it comes,” he stressed.

“I just have to be absolutely smarter on that night. I have to limit my mistakes, I can’t make mistakes against this guy and I’ll be successful if I can do that.”
